The Pharmacie Centrale du Port is a place with a long history. Gustave Flaubert lived here in 1853.It is said that he drew inspiration from the chemist's shop when writing "Madame Bovary" and that is why there is a mural of the author on the door inside the pharmacy. Louis Aragon also lived here until 1983. He was a friend of the owner, pharmacist Déniel Wallard. Aragon wrote on the letterhead paper of the pharmacy a poem entitled "il n'y a pas d'amours heureux" (There is no happy love, one of the few songs Brassens didn't write himself). Since 2005, Jean Luc Leroy (the new owner) has brought back the pharmacy's original soul. He has proudly hung up two paintintgs : a portrait of Flaubert by Hastaire and a painting entitled "Espérance" by Anthony Russell.
